Paul Nowakowski played his excitement over winning $50,000 close to the vest. “I’ve been retired about four years now; we’ve done most of the stuff we wanted,” said the South Bend resident, referring to himself and his wife, Debbie. “What is it we said we wanted to do?” he asked her when the couple came to Hoosier Lottery headquarters to claim their prize September 29. “In 2017 we’re going to go see the eclipse, and we’ll at least have to go to St. Louis [Missouri] for that.” Nowakowski won the top prize for the Friday, September 17 Lucky 5 evening drawing with a ticket purchased at Martin’s at 1302 Elwood Street in South Bend. His winning numbers were 2-4-9-21-22
