Fort Wayne Woman Wins $125,000 Holiday Winnings
INDIANAPOLIS – Emma Barnett of Fort Wayne kicked-off her holiday season – and jump-started her retirement planning - when she won $125,000 on a Hoosier Lottery Holiday Winnings Scratch-off over the long holiday weekend.
The lifelong Fort Wayne resident had just finished buying groceries for her Thanksgiving dinner when she grabbed a couple Lottery tickets on her way out the door at Meijer at 6309 Lima Road in Fort Wayne November 24.
Later that evening, with groceries put away and holiday preparations complete, she sat down at the table and scratched her tickets. As she scratched away the silver coating, she was stunned to discover she was looking at a ticket worth $125,000. “I just hollered. I just had a fit,” Barnett said with a laugh as she recalled the moment she realized she had won. “It took me a while to calm down. I couldn’t speak.”
Barnett has three grown children and six grandchildren. She has worked at ITT Communications Systems in Fort Wayne for nearly 23 years. She is approaching retirement and plans to use her winnings to boost her retirement and start serious planning for the big event.
“It’s a blessing. It’s truly a blessing,” said Barnett. “It’s something I never thought I’d see.”
The Hoosier Lottery reminds players to always play responsibly, and to always sign the back of their tickets. For more information, please contact Megan Wright at firstname.lastname@example.org or 317-264-4805.
