FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 4, 2009 Connersville Barber Claims $3.5 Million INDIANAPOLIS – The wait is over. We now know who bought the $3.5 million winning Hoosier Lotto ticket in Connersville. The winner hails from Glenwood, which is near Connersville in Fayette County. Cecil Bell is the lucky recipient of Saturday's $3.5 million Hoosier Lotto jackpot. Bell matched all six numbers in the August 1 Hoosier Lotto drawing: 11-18-22-42-44-48. "I've played every week for the last twenty years," said Bell. "I don't drink and I don't smoke so I figured I could spend five dollars on something!" The local Connersville barber defied odds of one in more than 12 million (1:12,271,512) to win the jackpot. Bell owns Cecil's Barbershop in Connersville. "He plans on going to work tomorrow like normal," said Bell's wife, Betty. "He's hardly missed a day of work for the last thirty years." Bell elected to take the current cash value of the $3.5 million annuity and received approximately $1.3 million before taxes ($1,343,297.00 cash) and they've already called their accountant. "I called him first thing Monday morning," said Bell. "I told him that it was urgent and he needed to call me right away." After Bell called his accountant, he headed to the golf course. "I had plans to play golf, so I played golf," said Bell. "I couldn't concentrate though. That's the reason I shot 93!" The Bell's first plans on the agenda: Take a trip to Hilton Head. "He asked me if I wanted anything," said Betty Bell. "And I said, 'absolutely nothing.'" "After the trip to Hilton Head, we'll invest it and help others!" said Betty Bell. The Bell's have five "amazing" children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, according to Betty Bell. One of their son's, David, accompanied the Bell's to Hoosier Lottery Headquarters to claim their prize. "We started dating when I was thirteen," said Betty Bell. "He was seventeen. We've been together for fifty-eight years (married for fifty-three)!" The retailer that sold the winning Hoosier Lotto ticket, Speedway #720292 located at 300 Central Ave. in Connersville, will receive a $35,000 bonus (1% of $3.5 million capped at $100,000). "Thank God for smiling on us and smiling on Connersville," said Betty Bell. The current Hoosier Lotto jackpot is $1 million.
