Brownsburg winner plans to buy new golf clubs, pay it forward
INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 18, 2013) - A Brownsburg man plans to indulge in a new set of golf clubs and have some anonymous fun paying it forward after winning $100,000 on a Hoosier Lottery Scratch-off.
As retired field chemist Dwight Barger waited briefly for his winnings at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis last Friday afternoon, he confessed that beyond golf clubs, he and his wife aren't sure exactly what they want to do with their winnings - but they know they want to have some fun spreading goodwill this holiday season.
"We always thought it would be neat to do something like anonymously buy breakfast for the whole restaurant or just anonymously pay it forward if we ever won," said Barger. "This is wonderful."
Barger's opportunity to do something he's always dreamed of came courtesy of the 20 X the Cash Scratch-off game.
Since the game launched Oct. 1, Hoosier Lottery players have already claimed $6.4 million in prizes on the popular Scratch-off.
There are still plenty of opportunities for players to spread cheer with 20 X the Cash this holiday season. Barger is only the second player to claim a $100,000 top prize on the game so far. Seven more prizes of $100,000 are unclaimed at this time, as are 44 prizes of $5,000 and more than 230 prizes of $1,000!
Profits from the sale of 20 X the Cash, like all Hoosier Lottery games, benefit all 92 counties. In Hendricks County, Hoosier Lottery players won $4.8 million in fiscal year 2012 (most current year for which numbers are available). In total, Hoosier Lottery contributed $11.4 million to Hendricks county in 2012 in the form of player prizes, retailer commissions and bonuses, local teachers, police and firefighters pension funds, and contributions to the Build Indiana Fund which reduces Hoosiers license plate costs by about 50 percent.
The Hoosier Lottery reminds all players to play responsibly. Must be 18 or older to play. Gambling Addiction Referral Line: 800-994-8448.
