Fall is a good time for big win in Carmel
INDIANAPOLIS – A Carmel couple is delighted with the timing of their Hoosier Lottery win. There’s never a bad time to win a bunch of money, but for William and Vicki Cummings, fall is a particularly good time to have some extra cash in the bank. William Cummings sells construction supplies and his income fluctuates with the seasons.
“We slow down in the winter,” said Cummings. “It’s wonderful knowing this money is there.”
The money Cummings is talking about is the $99,999 top-prize he won on a $5 Hoosier Lottery Scratch-off, the Scorchin’ Hot 9s game. Cummings claimed his prize at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters first thing this morning.
The Hamilton County man purchased his lucky ticket at Circle K at 545 S. Rangeline Road in Carmel. After they bank some for the leaner months, Cummings and his wife Vicki plan to use a chunk of their winnings on home improvement including a new roof and new carpet.
Cummings is the fourth lucky Hoosier to win a top prize on the Scorchin’ Hot 9s Scratch-off. Fannie Watkins of Speedway, Herb Earl of Hammond and Lupercio Vasquez of Indianapolis have also claimed top prizes on the $5 game. Two top prizes remain unclaimed at this time.
The mission of the Hoosier Lottery is to maximize net income for the state in a socially-responsible manner. In fiscal year 2012, the Hoosier Lottery generated $211 million in surplus revenue which was used to significantly reduce the motor vehicle excise tax for all Hoosier drivers and also supported the pension funds for retired Indiana teachers, police and firefighters. Player prizes for the fiscal year totaled $533 million and $60 million was earned by Indiana retailers on the sale of Hoosier Lottery products.
Since its inception in 1989, the Hoosier Lottery has produced more than $4 billion for the citizens of Indiana, $1 billion in commissions and bonuses for participating Indiana retailers, and has paid out more than $8.8 billion in player prizes.
The Hoosier Lottery reminds all players to play responsibly.
