Fort Wayne man wins $1 million, his third major Christmas time lottery win in a dozen years
Father-of-seven feels 'well-blessed' by $1 million Hoosier Lottery win
INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 22, 2013) - A Fort Wayne man has defied the odds. Roger Douglas just won his third major Hoosier Lottery prize. The lucky Allen County man claimed a $1 million prize on the Hoosier Lottery's new Million Dollar Holiday Scratch-off at Hoosier Lottery headquarters in Indianapolis Thursday.
It wasn't Douglas' first trip to the Hoosier Lottery claims office, or his first major Scratch-off win or even his first win on a Christmas-themed lottery game. It wasn't even his second time doing all these things. With his $1 million win, Douglas has now won three significant prizes on a Hoosier Lottery holiday game.
In November 2001 Douglas scored $250,000 on a Hoosier Lottery Polar Express Scratch-off and on Nov. 21, 2006 (seven years ago to the day of his most recent win) he won $25,000 on a Hoosier Lottery holiday raffle game.
"The odds are so against winning in the first place, I never thought it would happen again," said Roger Douglas. "I thought $250,000 win was once-in-a-lifetime. I feel well-blessed."
Douglas and his wife own their own business and have no plans to slow down their work schedules - even though Douglas is technically retired. As for his winnings, Douglas said, "We'll probably save most of it."
With his quarter million win in 2001, Douglas purchased a lake cottage. With his most recent winnings, the triple lucky winner plans to pay off what is left of his small mortgage and spread holiday cheer to his seven sons.
"This is going to be a happy Christmas!" said Douglas.
As foster parents, Douglas and his wife adopted seven sons who now range in age from 17 to 27. With the possible exception of one son who is serving in the military in Afghanistan, the couple plans to spend the holidays with their sons.
The Allen County man purchased his $1 million winning ticket at Kroger at 6310 E. State Blvd. in Fort Wayne. He is the first lucky player to claim a $1 million top prize on the Million Dollar Holiday Scratch-off game. Two top prizes remain unclaimed on the $10 game at this time. Eighteen $10,000 prizes are unclaimed at this time as well.
