Gary woman wins $125,000 Taxes Paid
INDIANAPOLIS – A lifelong Gary resident is looking forward to buying a new truck and giving her savings account a boost after claiming a $125,000 scratch-off prize at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis today.
Cathryn Alford, a mother of four grown children, grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of one, says she can’t wait to buy a brand new 2011 Ford truck with her winnings.
Alford walked away with enough for a new truck - and more. Because she won on the $125,000 Taxes Paid Scratch-off she actually received a check for $125,000 with no taxes withheld from her winnings. The Hoosier Lottery pays standard federal and state withholding on the $125,000 prize.
“It’s great!” said Alford. “It’s great! Just great!”
Alford purchased her lucky ticket at Petro America (known as Go-Lo to regular customers) at 2900 Burr Street in Gary. She bought her ticket Thursday, January 6, the day the game went on sale, and is the first lucky player to claim a top prize on the $125,000 Taxes Paid Scratch-off game. Four top prizes remain unclaimed at this time.
The Hoosier Lottery reminds players to always play responsibly, and to always sign the back of their tickets.
