Hoosier Lottery proudly supports Problem Gambling Awareness Month
INDIANAPOLIS (March 9, 2018) -- Every March, the Hoosier Lottery joins problem gambling treatment providers, advocates and lotteries across the nation to support Problem Gambling Awareness Month. The Hoosier Lottery aims to raise awareness of problem gambling and promote resources through retail marketing and social media campaigns. The campaign focuses on budgeting, personal finance, and retirement planning.
“Staying true to our mission to operate in a socially responsible way, the Hoosier Lottery proudly participates in Problem Gambling Awareness Month. Throughout the month, we increase our responsible play messaging on social media and at retail. To further promote responsible play, we encourage Hoosiers interested in furthering their money management skills to visit our free online financial literacy course,” said Sarah M. Taylor, executive director of the State Lottery Commission of Indiana.
The Hoosier Lottery offers a free online money management course at www.LearnFinancialLiteracy.com. The online course provides four modules of practical knowledge on important topics such as creating a budget, buying a home or car, managing credit, and planning for retirement. While some players may have an interest in basic budgeting, others may find the investment and retirement planning topics helpful in preparing for their future.
“Managing money is key to keeping life on the right track and within a budget. The Hoosier Lottery takes responsible gambling seriously, continuously working to educate those over 18 years old and reminding all to play responsibly,” said Chris Gray, executive director of the Indiana Council on Problem Gambling.
Initiatives like the awareness campaign and financial literacy course are part of the Hoosier Lottery Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program. The program comprises of four focus areas including responsible gaming, business impact, community impact, and environmental impact.
Responsible gaming efforts include the development of risk assessment tools for marketing and product development, increased player access to the state of Indiana's problem gambling helpline, development of holiday responsible gifting messaging to discourage underage play, increased employee participation in community outreach and volunteer programs and support of green initiatives. The Hoosier Lottery CSR report is available online at www.hoosierlottery.com.
