Hot Streak: Another Hoosier Lottery win in Monticello
INDIANAPOLIS – For the third time this month a Monticello resident has claimed a big Hoosier Lottery prize. This time the lucky winner is Stephen Fansler. The retiree won $67,500 playing the Hoosier Lottery’s new draw game, Cash 5.
Fansler purchased a $1 Cash 5 ticket at RC’s Corner Cupboard at 733 North Main Street that matched all five numbers in the Dec. 13 drawing. Those lucky numbers were: 4-15-21-25-27.
Fansler claimed his winnings at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis Dec. 19. Hoosier Lottery Spokesperson Al Larsen introduced Fansler to the media at a check presentation at RC’s Corner Cupboard today.
The lucky Hoosier grew up in Monticello. Although he is retired, Fansler works a couple hours a day at a horse farm to stay active. He says the win couldn’t come at a better time. His truck just broke down and he’s been borrowing a truck or getting rides from friends and family. He hopes to buy a new truck with his winnings.
Fansler is the third Monticello resident to win big this month. Dwayne Hampton of Monticello won $1 million on a Lucky Millionaire Scratch-off he purchased Dec. 17 at Eastside Marathon at 723 South Main Street. Dec. 5, Steven Bonnell of Monticello claimed a $100,000 prize on a scratch-off ticket he purchased in Marion.
Other players in the White County town have also reaped recent Hoosier Lottery rewards. In July of this year Dana Hufford of Monticello purchased a $100,000 winning Tag 6 ticket at Casey’s General Store at 1506 North 6th Street. That is the same retailer where another Monticello resident, Richard Bowsher, purchased a $77,777 winning Scratch-off in March 2011. Kenneth McCall of White County purchased a $75,000 winning Scratch-off at Kroger at 916 North Main Street in September 2010.
Fansler’s jackpot hit in White County is the fourth in the short history of Cash 5, which launched Nov. 4. Merrillville, Fort Wayne and Muncie are home to the game’s first three jackpot winners. With this Monticello win, Cash 5 players have won more than $407,000 in jackpot winnings so far.
Cash 5 offers the best cash odds of any Hoosier Lottery draw game and costs just $1 per play. The overall odds of winning are 1 in 8.8. Cash 5 numbers are drawn every night. The jackpot starts at $50,000 and rolls, or increases, every night until it is hit.
Players may purchase Cash 5 tickets anywhere Hoosier Lottery draw games are sold and may be purchased simply by asking a retail clerk for "Cash 5."
The Hoosier Lottery reminds all players to play responsibly.
The mission of the Hoosier Lottery is to maximize net income for the state in a socially-responsible manner. In fiscal year 2012, the Hoosier Lottery generated $211 million in surplus revenue which was used to significantly reduce the motor vehicle excise tax for all Hoosier drivers and also supported the pension funds for retired Indiana teachers, police and firefighters. Player prizes for the fiscal year totaled $533 million and $60 million was earned by Indiana retailers on the sale of Hoosier Lottery products.
Since its inception in 1989, the Hoosier Lottery has produced more than $4.2 billion for the citizens of Indiana, $1 billion in commissions and bonuses for participating Indiana retailers, and has paid out more than $8.9 billion in player prizes.
