Illinois man has sixth sense and $300,000!
INDIANAPOLIS – An Illinois policeman’s hunch proved true when he won $300,000 from the Hoosier Lottery last week. Julius Jackson of Calumet City, Ill., said he recently had a feeling he was on the verge of something big.
“I’ve been feeling real lucky the last couple weeks,” said Jackson. “I’ve had a sense something was going to happen.”
Jackson’s big break came courtesy of a Hoosier Lottery Quick Draw ticket he purchased at Speedway at 7405 Calumet Ave. in Hammond, Ind., in the Oct. 16 draw. It’s his regular Lottery spot and he’s been playing the same numbers faithfully since Quick Draw debuted in 2009.
The Cook County resident said he is excited to put a nice down payment on a house and indulge his wife with a nice decorating budget. Jackson said one of the coolest things about winning was the amazing moment when he – and the Speedway clerk - discovered his win.
“The store knew somebody had won, but they didn’t know who,” said Jackson. “It was me! When the clerk double-checked my ticket she looked at me smiling and said ‘you’re the one!’”
Jackson wasted no time claiming his winnings. He immediately got in his car and made the trip to Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis where he claimed his winnings Friday afternoon.
The winning Quick Draw numbers Oct. 16 were: 3-6-11-14-21-27- 29-33-45-48-49-53-67-68-70-71-74-76-78-79. Jackson matched 10 of the 20 numbers to win the $300,000 top prize.
The mission of the Hoosier Lottery is to maximize net income for the state in a socially-responsible manner. In fiscal year 2012, the Hoosier Lottery generated $211 million in surplus revenue which was used to significantly reduce the motor vehicle excise tax for all Hoosier drivers and also supported the pension funds for retired Indiana teachers, police and firefighters. Player prizes for the fiscal year totaled $533 million and $60 million was earned by Indiana retailers on the sale of Hoosier Lottery products.
Since its inception in 1989, the Hoosier Lottery has produced more than $4 billion for the citizens of Indiana, $1 billion in commissions and bonuses for participating Indiana retailers, and has paid out more than $8.8 billion in player prizes.
The Hoosier Lottery reminds all players to play responsibly.
