Imagine that! Hammond man wins $3 million on a Hoosier Lottery Scratch-off!

Lucky winner is regular at Cline Ave. Food Mart

WoodworthINDIANAPOLIS (July 10, 2013) -  A Hammond man received a shock recently when he scratched off a Hoosier Lottery ticket and won $3 million. Ronald Woodworth , who turns 70 next week, initially thought he had won $300,000.  He actually walked around for a few days thinking he had won $300,000.   It wasn't until a friend looked at the ticket that he discovered he had won not $300,000, but ten times that - $3 million!

Woodworth claimed his $3 million winnings at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis July 8, nearly three weeks after he purchased the winning ticket.  Woodworth said he took his time because he was getting his ducks in a row and meeting with financial advisors and lawyers to develop a plan for investing and protecting his windfall.

Woodworth and his wife have 11 grown children between them.   In his own words Woodworth says "I have more grandkids than I can count."   Woodworth works for Quintel as a driver.  Even with a Lottery windfall in the bank, Woodworth has no plans to retire anytime soon.

"I don't want to get old," said Woodworth.  "I need something to do."

The Lake County man plans to pay off all his bills, put new tires on his truck and make one major splurge purchase, a 1957 Chevy.

Woodworth is a regular at Cline Avenue Food Mart at 800 E. Hwy 330 in Schererville where he purchased his lucky ticket.  Store Manager Yeser Kanaan couldn't be happier to find out one of his regular customers is a big winner.

Woodworth 2"He's been coming here for 14 years," said Kanaan.  "I'm glad to see a good customer like him win. It's nice to see somebody you know win."

Woodworth is the first lucky player to claim a $3 million top prize on the $3 Million Jackpot scratch-off game which launched April 30. Four top prizes remain unclaimed on the game at this time.
