La Porte Co-Workers Win $200,000
INDIANAPOLIS – Sixteen co-workers at the MonoSol manufacturing facility in La Porte received an unexpected bonus of sorts this week. The co-workers claimed a $200,000 Powerball® prize at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis Tuesday.
The group, calling themselves the Sweet 16 won $200,000 in the February 23 Powerball drawing when one of their tickets matched the first five numbers, but not the Powerball number.
Craig Majcher of La Porte buys the tickets and checks the group’s numbers after every draw. He purchased the lucky ticket from Speedway at 1026 East Lincoln Way in La Porte. The co-workers, who hail from Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties, have been playing together since the MonoSol manufacturing facility opened in 2008
Each member of the pool received $12,500 before taxes. The group of fourteen men and two women all have different plans for their winnings. Ryan Richie of LaPorte says he plans to put his winnings toward a new truck. Steve Stark of Valparaiso is planning a vacation with his winnings.
The co-workers say they plan to continue playing as a group in hopes of someday hitting the jackpot. Tonight’s Powerball jackpot is $20 million.
