Lake County retiree claims $74,000 Cash 5 jackpot
As the wife of a retired police officer, Hammond woman was already a winner
INDIANAPOLIS (July 2, 2013) - Kathy Schloer of Hammond is the latest lucky player to win big money playing Cash 5 from the Hoosier Lottery. The retired nurse claimed a $74,000 Cash 5 jackpot from the June 20 drawing.
The lucky Lake County resident purchased her winning Cash 5 ticket from County Seat Liquors at 918 South Court Street in Crown Point using the same numbers she has played for months.
"I rotate through six numbers based on birthdays in our family," said the mother of three grown children. "At first, I wasn't sure if I played all five numbers this draw or not."
With her $74,000 jackpot windfall, the lucky retiree plans to pay off her vacation home in Florida.
Schloer might not have known it, but she was a winner before she ever purchased a ticket. That's because Schloer's husband is a retired Hammond police officer, and every year since 1989 Hoosier Lottery funds have supported Hoosier firefighter's, police officer's and teacher's pension funds.
Schloer joins winners in Hoosier cities of Batesville, Fort Wayne, Greenfield, Indianapolis, Jasonville, Merrillville, Michigan City, Monterey, Monticello, Muncie, Remington and South Bend in claiming Cash 5 jackpots. Cash 5 averages more than 4,000 winners every night and costs just $1 per play. The overall odds of winning are 1 in 8.8. The jackpot starts at $50,000 and rolls, or increases, every night until it is hit.
Players may purchase Cash 5 tickets anywhere Hoosier Lottery draw games are sold and may be purchased simply by asking a retail clerk for "Cash 5."
