Logansport couple glad to pad nest egg with winnings
INDIANAPOLIS – A Logansport couple is looking forward to padding their nest egg after claiming a $125,000 scratch-off prize at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis Monday.
Terry and Patty Grigsby say they are most thankful for the peace of mind their winnings will afford them.
“We’re pretty modest people,” said Terry Grigsby. “We don’t want for much. We don’t need much except security and health.”
Because the Grigsbys won on the $125,000 Taxes Paid Scratch-off they actually received a check for $125,000 with no taxes withheld from his winnings. The Hoosier Lottery pays standard federal and state withholding on the $125,000 prize.
Terry Grigsby said it was the “taxes paid” feature of the game that drew him to the ticket. Grigsby purchased the ticket while he was grocery shopping at Martin’s Supermarket at 3420 E. Market Street in Logansport.
The Cass County couple are the second lucky players to claim a top prize on the $125,000 Taxes Paid Scratch-off game. Cathryn Alford of Gary also claimed a top prize on the game January 7, 2011. Three top prizes remain unclaimed at this time.
As with all Hoosier Lottery games, the net income generated from sale of Hoosier Lottery Scratch-offs is turned over to the state. Last year, the Hoosier Lottery transferred $190 million to the state where it was allocated to teachers, police and firefighters retirement funds as well as the Build Indiana Fund which ultimately reduces Hoosiers’ license plate costs.
The Hoosier Lottery reminds players to always play responsibly, and to always sign the back of their tickets.
