Lottery winner’s wife makes best phone call ever
INDIANAPOLIS –A Brownsburg woman recently found herself on one end of what may be her best phone call ever. Donna Foley was out shopping recently when she called her husband to tell him she was heading to the grocery. It was a routine check-in kind of call so she wasn’t expecting what happened when her husband Randy answered.
“You better come home. I think we just won $150,000,” said Randy Foley.
Donna skipped the grocery and went right home. Her husband was right; he had just scratched off a $150,000 top prize on the Hoosier Lottery’s Winner Take All game.
When they claimed their prize at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters April 10, the retirees, who have been married for 47 years, said the timing of the win couldn’t be better. Randy Foley had just hired a contractor to put a new roof and porch and on their house less than a week before.
“It happened at a nice time,” said Randy Foley. “This is nice and handy.”
Randy Foley worked for Heritage Group for 45 years where he retired as a plant manager. Donna Foley taught daycare for 22 years. They have three grown sons and are expecting their second grandchild.
“This helps our kids,” said Randy Foley. “They’ve got good jobs and are good working people, but it will help them eventually.”
“We’re very, very thankful,” said Donna Foley.
Randy purchased the lucky ticket at Marsh Supermarket at 843 East Main Street in Brownsburg.
The mission of the Hoosier Lottery is to maximize net income for the state in a socially-responsible manner. In fiscal year 2012, the Hoosier Lottery generated $211 million in surplus revenue which was used to significantly reduce the motor vehicle excise tax for all Hoosier drivers and also supported the pension funds for retired Indiana teachers, police and firefighters. Player prizes for the fiscal year totaled $533 million and $60 million was earned by Indiana retailers on the sale of Hoosier Lottery products.
Since its inception in 1989, the Hoosier Lottery has produced more than $4.2 billion for the citizens of Indiana, $1 billion in commissions and bonuses for participating Indiana retailers, and has paid out more than $8.9 billion in player prizes.
