Lottery winner plans Elvis cruise with winnings
INDIANAPOLIS – A Clark County woman plans to do some travelling and take her mother on an Elvis-themed cruise after winning $130,000 from the Hoosier Lottery.
Donna Hammer of Charlestown, Ind. works for UPS in Louisville where she is part of a Mega Millions® pool. Friday evening she was on her way to meet up with co-workers when she remembered she needed to buy her group’s Mega Millions tickets. She pulled into Hwy 62 Foodmart in Charlestown, Ind. to get the tickets. While she was waiting for the Mega Millions tickets to print she decided to buy herself a Triple the Money Scratch-off. She bought the ticket, put it in her purse and forgot about it. She remembered the ticket a little while later during dinner and scratched it off. She was shocked to see a winning prize amount of $130,000.
“I was shaking. I couldn’t believe it,” said Hammer. “I showed the ticket to my husband and he said ‘Sign the back of it right now!’”
Hammer’s husband David and her sister Lora Eickholtz accompanied her to Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis Monday morning where she claimed her prize. The trio laughed and joked as they took photos of Hammer with her big check.
“We like to camp and boat and travel,” said Donna Hammer. “I imagine we’ll get to do more of that, but it won’t really change much.”
“This will make things a little bit easier,” said David Hammer.
“I owe my aunt a vacation and I’m going to take my mom on an Elvis cruise,” said Hammer.
As with all Hoosier Lottery games, the net income generated from sale of Hoosier Lottery Scratch-offs is turned over to the state. Last year, the Hoosier Lottery transferred $190 million to the state where it was allocated to teachers, police and firefighters retirement funds as well as the Build Indiana Fund which ultimately reduces Hoosiers’ license plate costs.
Players have 180 days to claim prizes on Hoosier Lottery draw games. The Hoosier Lottery reminds players to always play responsibly.
