Mini Mart proves lucky for Terre Haute $40,000 Mega Millions winner
INDIANAPOLIS –A Terre Haute man’s preference for shopping local independent stores paid off for him this week when a Mega Millions® with Megaplier® ticket he purchased at Fort Harrison Mart at 1301 W. Fort Harrison in Terre Haute won him $40,000 in Tuesday’s big Mega Millions drawing. Steve Shaw’s ticket matched four of the first five numbers and the Megaball® in Tuesday’s $380 million drawing.
As Shaw claimed his prize at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters today he explained that he plans to move pretty slowly and “Try to hang on to some” of his winnings.
Shaw said that he checked his ticket at www.hoosierlotttery.com when he heard on the news that somebody at the Mini-Mart near his house had purchased a ticket worth $40,000.
“It’s pretty cool,” said Shaw. “I had a good feeling about it when I heard a reporter say somebody at the Mini-Mart won. I thought ‘that could be me!’”
Shaw is one of three Hoosiers to win big in Tuesday night’s $380 million Mega Millions drawing. Bennie Felton of Muncie also won $40,000 in the January 4 Mega Millions drawing. The Hen at 524 North Main Street in Crown Point sold a Mega Millions with Megaplier ticket that matched the first five numbers, but not the Megaball, and is worth $1 million in the same drawing. That ticket is still unclaimed. In all, there were 64,000 winning Mega Millions tickets sold in Indiana for Tuesday’s drawing. The holders of all tickets are encouraged to sign the back immediately.
The winning numbers in the January 4, 2011 drawing were: 4-8-15-25-47 MB: 42. The Megaplier was 4.
As with all Hoosier Lottery games, the net income generated from Indiana sales of Mega Millions is turned over to the State. Last year, the Hoosier Lottery transferred $190 million to the State where it was allocated to teachers, police and firefighters retirement funds as well as the Build Indiana Fund which ultimately reduces Hoosier’s license plate costs.
Players have 180 days to claim prizes on Hoosier Lottery draw games. The Hoosier Lottery reminds players to always play responsibly.
