New Castle grandparents cap off holidays
with $1 million Powerball® win
INDIANAPOLIS – A Henry County couple ended 2012 with a bang. Dennis and Julie Archey claimed a $1 million Powerball prize Dec. 31 at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis. The lucky couple presented Lottery officials with a Powerball ticket that matched the first five numbers, but not the Powerball number, in the Dec. 19 drawing. Those winning numbers were: 5-8-20-23-30 PB: 3.
Dennis Archey purchased the lucky ticket at Village Pantry at 603 Broad Street in New Castle. The Chrysler retiree and his wife, a hospice RN, have been married for 39 years and have two grown children and three young granddaughters.
They have been regular Powerball players since the game started, playing faithfully twice a week.
“People always ask us, ‘why do you spend money on the Lottery?’” said Julie Archey. “We always tell them, ‘somebody’s going to win.’”
The Archey’s say the best part of winning a million dollars will be the extra security that comes from knowing the money is there if they need it – and spoiling their granddaughters.
As they claimed their winnings, the happy couple was exceptionally grounded in their approach to their windfall. They planned to celebrate their win and ring in the New Year babysitting their granddaughters.
“We’re pretty laid-back folks,” said Dennis Archey. “This is a blessing.”
The Hoosier Lottery reminds all players to play responsibly.
