Powerball® jackpot dreams prompt Scratch-off win!

MillerINDIANAPOLIS –  A LaGrange County woman stumbled onto some good luck over the weekend.  Dawn Miller was running errands Sunday morning when she heard a radio ad touting the (then) near-record $425 million Powerball jackpot.  The Wolcottville realtor popped into Lassus Handy Dandy at 400 North Main in Wolcottville to get a Powerball ticket.  She also decided to buy a Hoosier Lottery Scratch-off that turned out to be a $100,000 top prize winner!

“It’s been a crazy couple days!” said Miller as she presented her winning ticket at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis Monday morning.

Miller is a realtor of 14 years and her husband Chuck has owned a local glass business for more than 40 years.  Because they are self-employed, the couple hasn’t had the benefit of a traditional pension plan.  They are thrilled to use their winnings to bolster their financial security when they eventually retire.

“We’re both self-employed so we’ll put this toward our retirement,” said Chuck Miller.

The couple’s win came courtesy of the $5 Casino Cash Out Scratch-off.

The mission of the Hoosier Lottery is to maximize net income for the state in a socially-responsible manner. In fiscal year 2012, the Hoosier Lottery generated $211 million in surplus revenue which was used to significantly reduce the motor vehicle excise tax for all Hoosier drivers and also supported the pension funds for retired Indiana teachers, police and firefighters. Player prizes for the fiscal year totaled $533 million and $60 million was earned by Indiana retailers on the sale of Hoosier Lottery products.

Since its inception in 1989, the Hoosier Lottery has produced more than $4 billion for the citizens of Indiana, $1 billion in commissions and bonuses for participating Indiana retailers, and has paid out more than $8.8 billion in player prizes.

The Hoosier Lottery reminds all players to play responsibly.
