Winner claims $3.5 million Hoosier Lotto jackpot
INDIANAPOLIS – A Hoosier Lotto jackpot won in Gary in November has been claimed. The $3.5 million cash prize was claimed by M Kids, LLC. A representative for the LLC, Attorney Geff Rainbolt, accepted the winnings on behalf of his client at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters December 11.
Rainboldt indicated that the winner is a Hoosier and a regular Hoosier Lottery player who wishes “to maintain their current lifestyle.”
“There is a degree of uncertainty that goes along with coming into a large sum of money,” said Rainboldt. “But of course it is exciting.”
“They are looking forward to retirement and they are looking forward to doing things for their family that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to do,” added Rainbolt.
The winner purchased the jackpot-winning ticket at Nagra’s Quick Mart at 4321 E. Dunes Highway in Gary. The lucky winner’s ticket matched all six numbers in the Nov. 17 Hoosier Lotto drawing. Those numbers were: 10-14-16-20-24-26.
The lucky winner had the choice of taking payment of $10.5 million as a 30-year annuity or as a one-time cash prize of $3.5 million. They opted for the cash prize.
The M Kids, LLC win marks the sixth time in 2012 a Hoosier Lotto jackpot has been hit. Five other Hoosier Lotto jackpot-winning tickets have been sold this year at retailers in Frankfort, Anderson, Columbus, Highland and Shelbyville. A $3.5 million prize jackpot hit in Anderson in August remains unclaimed at this time.
The mission of the Hoosier Lottery is to return the maximum net income to the state in a socially-responsible manner. In fiscal year 2011, the Hoosier Lottery generated $188 million in net income which was used to significantly reduce the motor vehicle excise tax for all Hoosier drivers and also supported the pension funds for retired Indiana teachers, police and firefighters. Player prizes for the fiscal year totaled $495 million and $56 million was earned by Indiana retailers on the sale of Hoosier Lottery products.
Since its inception in 1989, the Hoosier Lottery has produced more than $4.2 billion in net income for the citizens of Indiana, nearly $1 billion in commissions and bonuses for participating Indiana retailers, and has paid out more than $8.9 billion in player prizes.
The Hoosier Lottery reminds all players to play responsibly.
