Young Millersburg man plans to buy property with winnings

INDIANAPOLIS – Wayne Hochstetler of Millersburg is the first lucky player to win a $100,000 top prize on a new Hoosier Lottery Scratch-off.  The 21-year old didn’t win on just any Scratch-off.  He won on the Hoosier Lottery’s new Taxes Paid Scratch-off.  Hochstetler walked away with the full $100,000 because the Hoosier Lottery pays the taxes for him.

“I was dumbfounded initially,” said Hochstetler who purchased his winning ticket at Simar Convenience at 206 N. Benton Street in Millersburg last Friday.

After a weekend of ruminating on the opportunity his win presents, Hochstetler had a slightly more pragmatic, if not philosophical approach when he claimed his prize at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters Monday.

“It’s definitely life changing,” said Hochstetler.

Hochstetler works at an RV factory near his Millersburg home.  The young man hopes to put his $100,000 winnings toward the purchase of a home and some land within the next year. As one of five children, he also hopes to take his family on vacation to Florida.

The mission of the Hoosier Lottery is to maximize net income for the state in a socially-responsible manner. In fiscal year 2012, the Hoosier Lottery generated $211 million in surplus revenue which was used to significantly reduce the motor vehicle excise tax for all Hoosier drivers and also supported the pension funds for retired Indiana teachers, police and firefighters. Player prizes for the fiscal year totaled $533 million and $60 million was earned by Indiana retailers on the sale of Hoosier Lottery products.

Since its inception in 1989, the Hoosier Lottery has produced more than $4.2 billion for the citizens of Indiana, $1 billion in commissions and bonuses for participating Indiana retailers, and has paid out more than $8.9 billion in player prizes.
