Muncie man hears magic, million-dollar words
A Muncie man received some of the best news of his life Monday. After matching the first five numbers in the Friday, July 13 Mega Millions® drawing, Tommy Matheny called the Hoosier Lottery to see how much his winning ticket was worth. Matheny assumed he won $250,000. He was wrong. “No sir. If you have the Megaplier®, you’ve won a million dollars,” was the news he got from Hoosier Lottery Customer Service Representative, Kay Billiard. “It sounded like he dropped the phone.” “I couldn’t believe it. I was just happy,” said Matheny. “But I didn’t want to get too excited until I had the money in hand. I didn’t want to be disappointed.” Matheny wasn’t disappointed at all when he claimed his prize at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters Monday. He was one of seven players nationwide that matched the first five numbers, but not the Megaball®, in the Friday, July 13 drawing. Because Matheny added the Megaplier for an extra dollar, he turned the standard $250,000 prize into a million dollar windfall. Read more of Tommy's story here.
